How often do you guys read?

Recommended Posts

I read a lot of articles, watch a lot of motivational videos, used to watch a lot of documentaries, and I go on Quora a lot (honestly I find just talking to people can be a form of reading books honestly), but it's very rare that I sit down and read a good book...sometimes I feel as though I'd be a little more informed if I did. Idk.

Heh if I'm reading something I want to learn. Probably why I like articles and Quora so much. If I want fiction I'll watch anime and play video games xD

Although l can never really be bothered reading too much but l did use to really enjoy a read once l started, before internet even though l didn't do that much of it or was l even that into it.

lt was always a twist my own arm thing to even bother.

So this is one of the maddest things about computers and internet.

How now can l easily spend all night on an idiot computer , when all your really doing is reading reading reading and talking to people you don't even know , can't see, have no idea whatsoever about them at all , yet somehow waste hours and hours doing it.

l just don't get how these things trap us into it.

l can't even be bothered with TV anymore but really , all a computer is is reading reading and more damn reading.

Well unless your into porn or videos , games, research , reading whatever l suppose.

But either way , it's still trapped on this idiot of a machine , rather than actually really living.

Even reading a real book on the couch is healthier than gawking at these things all night. Yet if nothing else is going on , l usually head for the computer or eve drop other real life things l could do , to go in the damn computer.

I'm an extremely busy self-employed single mom so I really just do not have the time to read a book. I read the news online, and watch it on TV. For my leisure "reading," I listen to 2-3 Audible books a month. I listen while I'm cleaning, showering, getting ready (i.e. makeup/hair), driving..... This is the only way I find time to actually "read." :) My preferred genre is historical fiction. I also listen to some straight drama and some mystery/psychological thrillers.

I love anime. wow is that an expensive ordeal if your a junkie to it. I can drop 200+ easy in 15 minutes at the book store. My ex got mad at the comic runs since I was on the call list when my issues came in and I had to have them.

I dropped out of imports and went big box VIZ junk. I gave it a try and Naruto, Black Cat, Bleach, etc is not my thing.

I like the gore Japan imports. Just me.

Rurouni Kenshin is in my Top 5 for sure. Kenshin is one of my favorite anime characters ever. Sadly never got into the manga so I could read the last arc...one of these days.

Haven't seen any of the other series you've mentioned aside from Bleach and yeah I hear after Soul Society it's pretty much drawn out and flat out boring.

Also...a series called Bubble Gum?

Yup. Bubblegum is about the best in cult anime.

The best in every way.

Its a 3/3 series from Crash to Crisis and then Tokyo series.

Theres a bunch on youtube. Go look. I always loved that opening sequence on a great sound system.

Lemme go look. I will post some links in this thread.

I hang out on Hylia all the time. I know built a very popular Anime Forum that is on the web for my buddy.

We run Discourse on really fast servers. We have members worldwide and the site is growing huge. The site is monitored for bad links we cant verify, but we have about 20 ppl monitoring our chat channels.

Its just Anime and PS/XBOX nerds of all ages and great fun.

Just google Anime Forums....We are on page 1.

...one last word about the site. We never ask for money. All our links are scanned to ensure not one pirate post has a chance. All our Admins/ Mods are selected worldwide and we screen them harshly.

The site is very strict since we have young kids and wil not allow Hentai or any such links that may not meet standards. Our number one goal since we allow ppl of all ages is to protect our younger worldwide members. Same for our chat rooms. We have a very selective bunch of Admins and Coders and funny stuff is something we take very very serious.

I've seen a fair share of anime in my earlier years and I used to like it. But now, being almost 30, nothing would make me watch it again :D

I read a lot - pretty much always have a book and or my kindle on the go.

I'm the same as Lorenza on anime - it's just cartoons to me - not my thing at all.

Books and reading are personal taste - just like any other kind of art is.

I don't consider reading LS as reading though. Reading for me is a book too, not an article.

I try to read a decent amount of pages each day. Though it was easier when I had a longer commute.

It's an effort, but most things are in life that are worth doing.

It's a major part of staving off mental complacency, keeping inspired, and the grey matter whirring.

I've been trying to not go online before work nor after work recently and just wake up reading a book for an hour over coffee and an hour when I get home - prob two books a month or so. It gives you a lot, I have been a paid writer all my life and I put it down to reading a lot when I was a kid, rather than schooling or university. For whatever reason I wasn't able to learn much from lectures, interactive classes or from tv, but if a teacher sent me home with a book I was always fine. Guess just different learning styles.

I've read a dozen novels so far since spring. I plan to finish maybe 8 more before winter. I have listened to around 8 audio books in the same amount of time. I've also read maybe 6 or so different news/research articles each evening. Knowledge is power.

ls that all through a computer or actually books?

My things is , l just love the ease and simplicity of real books , real paper , stretching out on the couch or in bed, no mechanicals , no nothing and it's so much easier on your eyes and mentally. Pr going down to the library , God l miss that. You get the walk down,to be around people in there, to feel real paper, real books , to sit around in a corner looking something up with people coming and going all around you ,it's real , it's life.

Yet for some reason , l get trapped on damn computers . They hurt my eyes , they stress me, l have to type , l spend more time reading garbage than l ever have in my life , yet l do it and can't even be bothered with paper or libraries or whatever.

And they aren't cheaper , not by a mile , must've spent 20k on computers and printers and internet since it started .

l wouldn't have spent that in a lifetime the old way, not even 1/2 .

It's a bizarre trap isn't it.

If you watch kids it's like a spell , even to 2 or 3 yr olds .

I read most nights before bed.

I don't really think it's something that's necessary - I just do it because I like it. I wouldn't assume that people who don't read books (or Kindles...) are "less knowledgable" than I am. Knowledge comes in many forms.
