I have dyed my hair platinum blonde and I hate it

Recommended Posts

I went to the hairdresser today and told him to dye my light brown hair as blonde as possible. BIG MISTAKE. He left the bleach on for over an hour. When he washed it off OMFG my hair is white now. And even worse thing is that it's destroyed it feels like cotton wool. Omg. I'm so distressed over this. I have already washed it and put some treatmant in as I'm paranoid it will fall off. It's already bob length so I can't really afford to cut any off.

Even worse, the platinum color looks too harsh on my face. I'm tempted to just go to the hairdresser and ask to put some brown foils through to soften it up a bit. BUT.. due to its poor condition I'm scared to put any more color in.

What should I do? Live with this color for 2 months or so to let my hair recover a bit or go to have more color put in?

P.S. I look like a porn star...and not in a good way.

Go to a different salon and find someone who is not only a stylist, but also treats the health of the hair. There are color dyes which do not use damaging chemicals, like amonia. They don't last as long, but it might tone it down a bit - don't try to change the whole color - just tone it down with maybe a pale blond - use an 'ash' blond or you will end up with brassy hair after a couple of shampoos.

then let your hair grow out with no further chemical treatments and keep it trimmed until you have cut out all the bleached part. Don't use any blowdryers or hot irons or curlers - or your hair will become brittle and break. You may need a different brush or comb for it as well. Check with a good hair professional who will assess the damage and make recommendations - one who doesn't only recommend the salon products, but will help you choose regular shampoos and conditioners for your hair.

I bleached my hair blond when I was 13 and kept it that way for a year. I had very long hair then. That was many many years ago and my hair has never been the same since. The stuff was on my head for so long that my folicles were damaged permanently. My hair is thin and damages easily. I hope that the damage is not permanent for you like it was for me.

Blonde is really pretty, but sometimes burnettes should be left burnettes...

Your hair will not fall out I have died my hair numerous amounts of times each month. Go to a different salon and ask them to put some low lights of brown in it for you. Putting a brown on top of a blonde will only leave the blonde to fade through in days. You can get them to tone it down a bit with brown/ dark highlights and I guarantee it will look SO much better. For the next cuple of days use a really good conditioner say herbal essences conditioner which is not expensive at all. If you wanted to become a blonde you should have taken gradual steps to do so say frosting the hair every cuple of months.

Good luck! can i see a picture, I'll tell you what I think of it?

Just be thankful you wern't blonde and they dyed it black and you hated it... believe me, I know the hell that one entails....

Post some before and after pictures so you can have the LS opinion :D I did when I cut my hair! I wish more people said they hate it though :p

You have to be very careful with touching bleached hair soon after... especially if it is very porous hair. How does it feel? Condition wise?

P.S How can you look like a porn star in a bad way :lmao:

I used to have hair like pink ammulets. And I died it black with my now ex. HORRIBLE FEELING WHEN YOU WAKE UP AND REALIZE YOU JUST completely ruined your hair. I have never gotten it back blonde it just will never go back until my hair color really really fades and I get it frosted

Pink is right

Well, I might leave it few days or so, I may get used to the color. I went to my local convinience store and guy that works there told me that my hair looks hot, so maybe it's not that bad ;)

Condition wise it's very, very dry but with heaps of product I can get it to look reasonably healthy. If I just dry it off with nothing in it, it looks like cotton candy, frizzy dry mess.

BTW, I dyed my hair black once too (oh the things I do with my hair, I torture it to death) and it was blue black permanent color. I looked like a clown, and I couldn't sleep that night (cried all night, I just couldn't relax knowing the state of my hair) . I went to the salon to have it fixed the next day, but the hairdresser told me that it's too damaged and if he lightens it it will fall off. So I burst into tears, and he agreed to lighten it to dark brown. Took me six months to get it to light brown. And now this...

P.S. I'm too shy to post pics and too freaked out that someone I know will recognize me and do a search and find my cringeworthy posts on my love life.

cut if all off. get a cute crop.

the worst thing you can do to extremely distressed hair is start messing by putting more dyes on it. it could easily break off and you'd be in a worse mess than you are now.

so go short, the platinum blonde which doesn't suit you will grow out very quickly and this time next year you will have nice, shiny, healthy hair again. okay, it will take a few years to be the same length as it is now, but so what? cotton wool of any colour is a terrible look. a crop can't be worse than that even if you hate short hair.

then chalk the whole thing up to experience and don't do it again.

All hair is different but take it from someone who has dyed their hair more than you probaly can count. Give your hair some time/ and good conditioner and possibly a toner to tone down the blondness. Well send me a picture in my email [email protected]

man I'm so curious!!!!!

Spoke to a girl who was HD for years and she knows a lot.

She told not to put any more dye in it as it will damage it further, so to leave it for 8 weeks (omg!)

She also said that there is no need to crop it and gave me names of the best protein treatments and how to use them, and told me that they will somewhat restore my hair.

My huge isssue is going to visit my parents later this week. They are going to be sooooo shocked.

People at work know that I change my hair color often and even find it amusing.

maybe you can wrap a big bandage over your head for 2 months. just tell everyone you're having some type of medical treatments but don't go into detail. voila! :)

I was platinum blonde for a couple years. There is a silver reflex shampoo you can use once a week to keep out the brassiness. I would not wait 8 weeks to go back. Your roots will look AWFUL...and there are dyes on the market that are non-damaging...it may cost you more but if you don't like being blonde, you may find it worth it...

So use good conditioner. Get this purple shampoo( kroger has it, hopefully yours does too ) It takes out the braisiness and yellowness( if there is any yellowness) Next time Don't bleach your hair. Let a hair dresser put high lights in it( frost ) and it will give it a more natural blonde look

I still want some god darn pictures :( NOW NOW haha

and for additional advice from alphamales response, if you do decide to put a big " bandage" over your head. Tell people you are converting to a new religion. voila haha

I am sure you look good (there are always guys who love blondes and will tell you that you look much better like this so don't worry! :p). I went blonde recently too but it didn't ruin my hair (more than it was already ruined :laugh).

I am pretty sure it's not so visibly damaged as you think it is, but the bad news is: NO, it won't recover until you cut it off no matter what people tell you. What you can do to treat it is to mix yolks with olive oil and spread it all over your hair. Let it remian there for a few hours and do it once a week.

You can cut it up to your shoulders and wear it with thick bangs and look retro. Or you can simply color it light brown.

Isn't life adventurous? :D

P.S. Don't go to that hair dresser again. ;)

P.S.S. Do you have a problem combing your hair? If yes, comb it while you have a conditioner on in the shower, don't mess it up while washing it, brush it as often as possible and protect it when you sleep.

That's happened to me. There is a product that removes hair coloring so that it can go back to the color prior to dying it a darker shade. If bleaches and amonia used, that permanently changes the color from your natural color, But if you go darker, you can always have it removed, called "color correction" and they charge a leg and an arm for it.

To the OP. Go to a good shop where they sell hair products. Since you are on a budget, there are some shampoo like products that are tinted in darker colors that you can apply to your hair. They are deep conditioned so it is actually healthy for the hair, especially since bleaching it strips the hair of its fibers, these products will attach onto the hair to make it stronger. They are temporary too because it is all natural and no bleach or amonia and your hair will feel stronger and silky smooth (until it grows out and you can afford to do low/highlights and the such).

I ended up walking past some random hair salon and went in. I told the girl there that I want my hair slightly darker but that it's very damaged etc. She had a look and decided to do 1/4 of head of medium ash blonde lowlights to soften the look and the put another toner on so that blonde looks more natural overall as opposed to platinum. Toner we picked out is called "pearly vanilla milkshake" really nice creamy blonde. People have warned me that my hair could snap off if I put more color in so I had this at the back of my mind.

But...my hair didn't fall off and it came out very nice so I'm much happier :D

I have washed it last night and put some protein treatment in followed by deep moisturasing conditioner as recommended by a friend that used to be a hairdresser. Afterwards, my hair felt a lot softer and silkier. I know that that's most likely an illusion and my hair is probably as damaged as it was but hell, I'll take it.

I have actually noticed that men look at me much more than when I used to have brown hair which is nice (unless they are thinking omg this is the worst hair color I have ever seen).

Girl,I did the same thing almost five months ago and I'm still regrettin It! My natural hair is dark so for fun I decided to dye it blonde. I got some Born Blonde from walmart and left it on my hair for two hours to get it blonde. Well the actual color was very nice but my hair was totally fried! I was so upset cause I hate having short hair I almost cut all my hair off. I like my hair to be long atleast to the middle of my back, so intesd of cutting it all off I trimmed a couple inches which helped, but anyways I used a hot oil treatment I'm pretty sure it was V05,you don't have to heat it in the microwave or boiling water it works with the heat in the shower. But really try a hot oil treatment it helped a lot! I dyed my hair back to my real color and I am just leaving it alone. Also whatever you do do not blowdry or use any heated tools on your hair!
