I've been reading an article on net, its called "weight loss choice".

It says

The ideal weight for a woman who is exactly 5 feet tall is 100 pounds

I mean wow, thats thin! isn't it? its not "ideal", its thin!

I always wanted to be normal, not thin not fat. well I'm 141 and 5.2 feet and I'm fat :( I'm trying to lose weight but im scared of looking bad , cuz i dont have a big butt and if i lose my tits i won't have anything :weep:

but these sites seem unreasonable to me, don't you think?

Seems like most of those sites are based on 1950's data and not really acceptable. At least not by my standards. At 5'11" and 200# I am obese! It doesn't take into consideration that I also am fairly lean and athletic. Look in the mirror and judge yourself. You don't need someone or some graph to say how well you look.

I think it depends on bone structure and frame, as well as how toned the person is.

A 5' woman who is very small-boned will look great at 100 pounds. A woman with a larger frame would look drawn and unhealthy at that weight.

I am 5'8", have a larger frame, and when I am 150 pounds, I am a size 6-8, which is perfect for me.

Someone else could be a similar height and weight, and look huge at that weight.

We all have different body types and look our best at different weights.

I don't think I can link sites here, but there is a site called My Body Gallery (Google it) where you can put in a height/weight and get results of a bunch of women with those stats. For example, if you put in 5'0" and 150 pounds, you'll see that some of the photos in the results look fat and some look perfectly fine.

americans talk and talk about weight but not about morals. its an anything goes country. size is more important than belief system.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh kay.

What does one have to do with the other?

Someone can have great morals and still work on being fit.

?????

i 600 lb women with morals is beter than a fit woman in a fag mariage.

Ok then. But it has nothing to do with the question asked in this post. The poster is neither 600 pounds or in a same-sex marriage, and we know nothing of her morals (not that her morals have anything to do with the question she is asking here.)

I know, I know. I should quit feeding the troll. I'll say it before someone else does. LOL

I thought this thread was about ideal body weight and not which country's morals were in question...

It surely depends on that too but it wont make a huge difference, i checked that site out but some of the photos don't seem to match each other some are very different.

There's a thing called "People's Choice Ideal Weight". From what I understand it's basically what people want to weigh when they are at a certain point.

My wife is 4'11". She ranges from 96-105 pounds. She's pretty much stayed in that ballpark since I met her in college.

So as I've been losing weight and tracking my own "People' choice" weight, I've looked at hers fairly often too:

Better Ideal Weight Body Calculations

If you enter the numbers in, it'll basically tell you that most women her age(37) at 4'11" aren't satisfied with their weight until they are exactly 100 pounds. Doesn't mean it's right or wrong, it's just statistics.

btw according to the site, women her age at 5 feet like to be 103 pounds.

The way you figure it out is to keep putting in numbers until the weight you are matches the people choice weight. IE a women who's 37 yrs, 5 feet tall, and 150 pounds will have a goal of 122 pounds, but a women same age and height at 122 pounds will have a goal of 111 pounds. It doesn't stop until 103 pounds.

Now as to my wife and if that weight is realistic? She's in the 4th percentile for her age\height! WOW. The average person our age (36/37) is OVERWEIGHT. But 100 pounds is on the lighter side for a woman her age\height, not unhealthy though. Lots of ways to look at it. Maybe the article you were looking at was people's choice ideal weight?

Oh you can look at what percentile you are in by using this chart:

They put my ideal weight at 151 lbs, which is exactly what I consider my ideal weight. I'm getting close to it!

I'm about that height but below 100, last time I weighed myself. I've been as high as 115, which I felt gorgeous at because everything filled out. However, I didn't feel comfortable with how my clothes looked and the extra weight I was carrying. I prefer to be around 95-100.

Besides, I see the charts as guidelines only. Individual differences come into play much more than can be included in such charts.

I used to be that tiny. I've weighed a lot more than that for years now; I don't know how to get back down there, and wonder how I'd feel now, if I managed it.

I once weighed myself and found my weight to be too low: 89lbs. I hadn't been feeling well, and mum demanded to know if I was anorexic. I felt better around 98lbs - 106lbs, but it's been at least ten years since I was that low. :(

I don't know how much I weighed at my lowest, but 89lbs does sound very low, even for someone our height.

I used a website that included a food and exercise tracker to get to what I considered was my ideal body weight range.

Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com

Took me about six months. At our height and weight, it's quite difficult to do the calculations for calorie intake because a lot of the advice warns against going below a certain threshold. But I found that eating at that threshold was too much for me and I'd have to significantly increase my activity levels to compensate.

That would be me! The most I've ever weighed in my life was 140 (ideal according to the OPs chart) and that was only during one very stressful summer when I was in my twenties. I cringe when I see photos of myself from back then. I am somewhat small boned and an ectomorph so I look and feel better around 130 lbs. maximum.

I know quite a few 5'2 girls who are all pretty good athletes. They all weigh around a very lean 115-120, and look great if you ask me. VS type models are sooo unappealing to me. Give me an athletic woman please and thank you. For 5'0 that would probably translate to about 105-110. Not far off, but off from what you read.

Those sites are so out of date. They don't take into account age, as someone said body type, ethnicity......I am 5'2'' and closer to 50 than 40. 115-120 not a chance.

What is your height?

I am 5 '5 with a very curvy body type.

I am aiming for 125 lbs, which gives me a flat stomach and thin body for my frame.

I am medium framed.

I am 130 and am not chubby or fat at all, but I perfer to be 120 - 125, becasue it is very thin for my bod type.

I guess it is just not healthy for medium boned folk like me to w ant to be 120 or lower, with our curvy bodies and all:(

Weight is irrelevant because two people with the same measurements could weigh vastly different amounts if one had very low bodyfat and was solid muscle and the other was mostly fat. Someone who looked bigger could actually weigh less. Muscle weighs more than fat.

Age has nothing to do with anything, in my opinion. Look at Jane Fonda or Ernestine Shepherd. Extremely fit and active. Yes, it might make you not want to bother with diet or exercise. It might slow down your metabolism a bit, but too many people use that as an excuse.

The research I have read for the last 18 plus years do say age is a factor. The metabolism slows, differing medications needed for (in my case thyroid and HB)things like diabetes, heart disease, arteritis and osteoporosis just to name a few make it difficult to maintain those 1950 charts. As far as excuses...not sure how facts make excuses. How old are you may I ask?

Throw out all the research you have read, unless it came from fitness articles and publications. Dr's don't know what they are talking about. They know the body, they don't know nutrition. They are two totally different things. Look at that ridiculous food chart they put out 50 years ago that's soo off base it's laughable. They've tried to update it, it's still a mess. Every Dr has a specialty, Oncologist, Endocrinologist, Gynecologist... Nutrition is best known by the Nutritionists. Your metabolism is NOT controlled by your age. It is a combination of age, lean mass, activity level, thyroid levels, how much you exercise, how much you eat, how many meals a day, what times you eat, what time you work out (if you do)... etc.

And don't watch the scale so much, go out and buy a tape measure. It is a much more true indicator of what is going on with your body.

My ex is 5'5. She was a sexy 125lb woman when I met her. She was a HOTT as FFFF 130lb woman a year later of us working out together. Lower number does NOT equal better body. How you look is not a number on the scale it's soo much more.

I am probably older than you are. I am hypothyroid and before I was diagnosed and treated, I lost one pound per week when cutting my calories to 1500-1800 a day, walking nearly everyday and working out with weights four times per week. Yet I still lost weight.

After I was treated with natural thyroid, which I still take, when I overeat and gain a few pounds due to stress eating or gluttony, I lose two pounds per week doing the same things. Not too much of a difference. Too often people think once they have thyroid meds they can eat vast amounts and not gain.

If you lost the excess weight, you probably would not need your other meds, except for thyroid. Most of those diseases you listed are lifestyle diseases due to years of poor health habits. You probably need to find a menopause specialist who can prescribe natural bioidentical hormones. That will prevent or stop osteoporosis and make your body burn calories more efficiently. You can toss any antidepressants as well. Hormones are the fountain of youth. That is why young people have so many!

Actually I am not over weight but thank you for the advice. I have a family history of HB and heart disease. Diagnosed thyroid in my late 30's HB in late 40's. My doctor and I have discussed my menopause needs along with therapist so we are all good with our decisions. I am glad that what you say worked for you, but the medical profession does recognize the facts you dispute. You are more the exception than the rule. Keep up the good work. :)
