Off to rehab I go

Recommended Posts

On sunday I asked my family to send me to rehab.

I admitted that all of my adult life has been nothing but chaos. I've jumped from 3 addictions. If I wasn't gambling I was drinking, if I wasn't doing either of those I was chasing women.

This summer became the perfect storm and I some how merged the 3 into one out of control life. When I realized how out of control my life had become I started drinking heavily. I'm downing upwards of 4 liters of vodka a week and drinking beer.

Sometime in the next 7 days I'll be off to rehab.

While i have had good times living in chaos, i can assure you it is nothing to envy.

That's good to hear that you're willing to change!

I've been sober more than 6 years. I drank almost a gallon of vodka every day the last two years I was drinking. I've never felt better - sober is a great feeling once I sifted through my emotional pain.

I suggest detox first. Supervised detox.

And I hope you become willing to change and keep an open mind.

Positive thoughts your way!

Literally? That seems impossible, but I don't know how much a committed alcoholic can drink.

Yep. It nearly killed me. That was the point back then.

I was admitted to the emergency room with a blood

Alcohol level of .40 and had had a stroke. They couldn't figure out how I survived.

I took my opportunity to live again and haven't had a drop since.

I'm drunk right now.. I'm just waiting until I ge to rehab.

My wntire adult life has been nothing but addicion. If I wasn't at the casino I was drinking, if I was not drinking or at the casino I was having flings w/ women.

Some of the time I'd straighten out for a short period. But it would never last. So for now I'm just downing vodka! ? might as well right?!?

I warned my family they need to get me to rehab before it's to late.

It isn't your families responsibility to control you.

It's up to you to take action.

Check in to a detox facility TODAY! Most rehabs won't take you while you're drunk anyway. You need 3 days at least to clear your system out. It's uncomfortable and should be done by a supervised faculty or you can even go to the hospital.

Go today!

Will be doing that shortly.

I'm surprised I'm still alive. I'm surprised I don't have HIV or Hep. C.

I'm wondering what my life is going to be like after. I'll likely have to avoid my parents.

Your life will be great. My father was a raging alcoholic and made everyone's life a misery. Once he kicked the booze our relationship improved 100%.

Anyone know anything about rehab?

Should I go to a 12 step or alternative treatment? Opinions and advice would be great.

Kudos! You can do this!

@ Dork Vader and 2sunny:

Can I ask you guys something? I don't mean to be nosy, but I am really curious: How do you go to work drinking like this? And doesn't that completely mess with your energy level? I am really curious how people can lead a life that way, especially if they have to meet their responsibilities with family and work. If they don't have those responsibilities, well, I guess it can be hidden. But with a "normal" liftstyle? Can it be hidden?

I own the business. It really wasn't much of an issue until the last month. I quit getting hang overs for a while.

But the last month or so it's started to make me physically sick. Tht started out with just puking in the morning. Now I'm puking at work, i just go to the bathroom and ya...

I am partners in the business with my brother and he's going to keep the business going while I'm gone. I'm sure if I did not own the business I'd be unemployed.

I tried to go 24 hours with out drinking and had physical withdrawls. I was shaking and puking. She noticed... That is when the lights came on.

I had good results with a 12 step intensive program designed to sift through my trauma and get to the other side.

It requires the drinker to DO the steps though - and then be willing to DO those steps with OTHERS who want to get well.

Rewarding and life changing for sure. But you only get out of it what YOU get willing to put into it.

It's like everything else in life; If you want it badly enough, you can and will succeed.

It won't be easy and you will have to resign yourself to the fact that you will NEVER really be "cured" of your addictions. No such thing. You will have to do a LOT of hard work for a very long time and that includes avoiding certain situations, places and people in order to stay sober.

Congratulations on being proactive and taking the initiative in getting the help you need.

Best of luck to you.

Drinking alone won't give you HIV or Hep C.

Have you been a drug user too?

Most rehabs will require detox before showing up at rehab. You usually need to get to rehab after detoxing. Check that out first then they should drive you straight over to the rehab after detox is complete.

Best of luck for this next phase of your life dork vader..

It won't be easy, but you've got support.

You got this.

No I have not used drugs. But the sheer number of women I've slept with should have exposed me to it. I rarely used protection.

I don't have HIV or Hep. C unless I got HIV or Hep. C from the last 2 women I slept with. But I got tested recently and my doctor said I'm likely fine.

I knew the risk and simply did not care.

Lucky for you, there are free 12 step support groups for all 3 of your addictions.

Just dont date anyone in the groups in the first year.

And for God sakes dont go to a co-ed Sex Addicts group

Thats like a kid in a candy store......

You need to take personal responsibility for this to work.

None of this b ullcrap about 'my parents better get me in before its too late'.

Your life, your responsibility bucko. Best of luck. You CAN do this.

I just got home from rehab today, I was there for exactly 1 month. It was a life changing experience on numerous levels. I'm a bit tired at the moment but I'll try and post an update when I get some free time.

Detoxing from alcohol is NOT fun.
