employment question

Hi guys. Just a general question. I applied for a job a month ago. Had a phone interview. I asked when they would make their decision, they said in 2 weeks. 2 weeks was up last Friday. I was just having a look to see " what's out there" and I see they reposted the position they called me for. Does this mean, I didn't get the job?

Yes. Much like being ghosted, employers typically only notify you if they want to move forward.

It could be. Or it could be that the pool they interviewed was too small for them to be confident in their selection, so they need to go through more applications to justify their appointment. If you’re in a country that has policies around employment equity or affirmative action, this is sometimes necessary - if the profile of the company is too homogeneous and they need more diversity, and the applicants don’t meet the equity criteria they may readvertisemto see if they can get any applicants who do, and if not, go back to their original pool and confirm the person they had initially selected.

Back when movies and TV shows were black and white, at the end

the job interview the applicant would be told in a tone apparent to

all but him that: thank for applying we will let you know, don't call

us we will call you; that they were never going to call the applicant.

 

The applicant, needing a job, would not pick up on that tone. Hoping

he was still being considered. And wait for the call, and wait.

 

The phrase don't call us we will call you became the punch line of

many a joke.

 

I have applied for jobs. Never got the call for an interview.

Months later see the ad again. I would apply again. Not hear

again.

 

I knew that they never will call any of us that they passed over the

first time. But the price of a stamp to mail a resume, and needing a

job you did it any way with the odds against you.

 

Then years later the ads when reposted would contain: previous

applicants need apply.

 

Now in the politically correct days the ads when reposting say

previous applicants are still being considered. Which is a lie. They

don't want to get anyone angry at them.

 

Whether PC or not they are not interested. Though I have heard

of the rare instance when continued applications did pay off.

So basically, I didn't make there cut, and instead of being professional in letting me down, they would rather repost the ad. Lol well you win some and you lose some. Thanks for sharing your story. Greatly appreciated

It is possible that they are searching for more candidates and will make a decision once they have met enough, but all too often it means they are not interested.

 

Having interviewed people I simply don't have the time to tell everyone no. Nor do you want to get stuck answering "why not". It was eye opening being on the other side. Also, your reasons for the no might not be taken too well (arrogance, rudeness, lack of enthusiasm).

 

It can't hurt to send a follow up, but keep other options open. I've had companies call me back after 6 months on rare occasion but I usually had found another job by then.

 

Make sure you send a thank you email within 24 hrs.

Not everyone can handle being told you suck I would not hire

you if you were the last person on the earth that do the job.

 

So whether the say it nice to you they still run the risk of any applicant

being the person that will go postal on them when told no way.

 

Even when I receive the "blow off letter" where they thank you

applying saying how you were an outstanding applicant. One knows

that they are just being nice.

 

Also businesses are always told to take steps to prevent law suits.

Not getting back to the applicant after the interview and not giving

reasons why they did not hire him, because they avoid giving the

applicant ammunition to sue them.

 

I after being an adult for forty years I went to an interview for a

white collar job. I got an email from the Head Person. He paid me

compliments. Saying I made it a tough choice for him. That a man as

me will find a position soon.

 

I sent him a email back. I said that usually people do not respond to

the rejection emails though I had to tank him for his because it was

the nicest rejection in all the years I ever received and that I know

he is busy and there is no need to respond back. That I appreciated the time

and effort to make me feel good.

 

You know what the man did?

 

He sent me a short email back thanking me for my thank you and

saying I know that a applicant as good as you will find something soon.

 

I knew he was "blowing smoke up my ass" and he knew that I knew.

Who knows what made him kind or have empathy.

 

I did know going in that me getting that job was a long shot. So not

disappointed at the results. Though disappointed at failing again. If

you understand the difference.

 

Being an adult is not having to be told the obvious. Rather having

the self awareness to realize the truth.

 

So we got our ass whipped today.

 

We have tomorrow to try again.
