Her Granny lives in the hood..I hate going

My wife's grandmother (and some of her fam) live

in a city that's not very pleasant. a little gang activity,

kinda grimey looking, just not a place you'd like to retire,

etc.

Anyway, we have our new baby. And Wife feels obligated

to go visit Grandma and show the baby off. But i just don't

feel like taking baby to that neighborhood and actually, neither

does my wife, but she again, feels obligated.

There have been other family get-togethers in that city

that we haven't gone to in the past (even before baby)

because it just sucks there. I have NO idea WHY some of

her family lives there, when they could easily all move

two cities away where it's a nicer, safer scene. They

can afford it, so i'm not sure why they stay.

Don't get me wrong, Wife and I don't live in the richest area nor are

we snobs or wealthy by any means. We just don't feel like going

to a dirty unsafe area (where there have been shootings before)

even just once in a while.

Is that wrong?

I don't feel that it is wrong. My wife's grandparents live in an area like that as well and I have avoided going to get togethers at their house, or tried to leave as early as possible when I have been forced to go. It has nothing to do with her grandparents as they are nice people I just don't feel safe when I am in the area they live in.

same here, we just don't feel safe. I wouldn't mind going there

all the time by myself. I don't care because, i grew up in a

rough neighborhood myself. But I just don't want my wife

to have to go there and especially our baby.

Exactly! I have to small children and I worry about their and my wife's safety when we are there. I am not concerned for myself as I know I can handle anything they want to try with me but I am worried for my family's sake.

Yeah, it's an issue with us. We work around it without

trying to be rude.
