Suicide Hotlines

Recommended Posts

I've been noticing a few people talking about committing suicide here lately. I just wanted to start a thread with suggestions for places they can get help. Hopefully, if enough of us keep this up, we can get this thread pinned.

I'm in the US but if people from other countries could post their suicide hotline numbers on here, that would be great.

US:

Some good websites that I found over my hellish last weekend.

Suicide: Read This First -- This is really good because it steps back and doesn't lecture you on why you shouldn't. It gives you some good things to think about it, but it is not like some of the suicide prevention websites which practically scream at you when you need quiet suggestions and contemplation.

Contact us | Samaritans -- I know the Samaritans were already discussed above. If you scroll down the link page, it will show you that you can contact them in several ways, phone, email or text. When I was having my crisis this weekend, I knew I could not just call up a stranger to talk, so I used the email.

These people are very good too, because unless you both provide them with information like an address to save you, and request them to, they wil not. They will talk with you and give you a safe space to discuss. I knew that it had to be my decision, and so knowing that they have a strong ethic of believing that we all know our own lives best and should make our own decisions. they don't offer advice. They are there to listen and ask questions and aid you in coming to the decision that is right for you.

You do NOT have to be suicidal to contact them.

And I am going to take a risk and post this one because includes some of the same philosophy of making your own decision as Metanoia and the Samaritans, but it makes some of the same quiet and intelligent arguments on waiting, offers if I recall some services for those in crisis, and a good hard sober read through the various methods, and how even the surest of them leave some percentage alive and horribly damaged can help someone decide against it.

Lost All Hope: Information on suicide methods, statistics and help

Hope some of these help!
